About The Program

Jindal Global Business School (JGBS) offers a highly respected and rigorous Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program. The Ph.D. programme at JGBS provides students with a strong foundation in research methodology and prepares them to undertake independent research. Students will work closely with faculty members who are experts in their fields and have extensive research experience. They will also have access to state-of-the-art research facilities and resources, which will help them conduct high-quality research and produce impactful work.

The programme is highly flexible, allowing students to tailor their coursework and research to their individual interests and goals. Students can choose from a wide range of research areas, including finance, marketing, management, entrepreneurship, strategy, economics, and more. They will also have the opportunity to attend conferences and present their work, collaborate with other researchers, and participate in various research activities organized by the school.

To be eligible for the Ph.D. programme at JGBS, applicants must meet certain criteria. They must have a Master’s degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Economics, Commerce, Engineering/Technology, or allied subjects with at least 55% marks. Alternatively, they may have a Post Graduate Diploma in Management recognized as equivalent to an MBA by AICTE with 55% marks or equivalent grade.

Applicants who hold professional qualifications such as CA, ICWA, CFA, or CS (both 5-year integrated or 3 years after graduation) with minimum 55% marks are also eligible to apply. Those who have over 3 years of industry/teaching/practicing/managerial/professional experience will receive preference in the admission process.

The Ph.D. programme offered by JGBS provides an opportunity for students to specialize in a range of research areas across various business disciplines. The programme aims to promote interdisciplinary research and innovative approaches to problem-solving.

The programme provides research opportunities in various areas such as Finance/Accounting, where students can explore topics like financial management, investments, and accounting. In Human Resources/Organizational Behavior, students can delve into topics like employee motivation, leadership, and organizational culture. In Marketing, students can conduct research on consumer behavior, brand management, and advertising.

Economics is another area of focus, which includes research on micro and macroeconomics, econometrics, and public policy. The programme also offers research opportunities in Operations Management/Decision Science, where students can explore topics such as supply chain management, logistics, and optimization.

Finally, the programme also offers research opportunities in Strategy/Entrepreneurship, where students can research topics such as business strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Applicants for the Ph.D. programme at JGBS can apply under two categories: full-time and part-time.

Full-time Ph.D. students are those who are enrolled in the programme and devote their full-time to completing the degree requirements. This category may or may not have a fellowship provided by the university or an external agency.

Part-time Ph.D. students, on the other hand, are those who are registered in the programme and devote only a part of their time to completing the degree requirements while continuing with their employment obligations. This category does not include any fellowship or financial assistance from the university.

The Ph.D. programme at JGBS requires students to complete a total of 20 credits, which can be earned through a combination of doctoral level courses, electives, and university-level courses. The credit requirements and coursework details differ based on whether the student is a full-time or part-time Ph.D. student.

For full-time Ph.D. students at JGBS, they must complete two doctoral level courses during the Fall semester, each worth 1.5 credits, and then two doctoral level electives/courses during the Spring semester, each worth 1.5 credits. The doctoral level courses available to choose from are Marketing Theory, Organizational Behaviour & HR, Operations Management, Financial Management, and Economics. Additionally, full-time students are required to complete four university-level courses during the Fall semester, including Quantitative Research Methods, Qualitative Research Methods, Academic Writing, and Research & Publication Ethics, totaling 11 credits. They must also complete a term/seminar paper worth 1.5 credits.

For part-time Ph.D. students at JGBS, they must complete three university-level courses during the Fall semester, including Quantitative Research Methods, Qualitative Research Methods, and Academic Writing, totaling 9 credits. They must also complete two term/seminar papers, each worth 1.5 credits, and two doctoral level electives/courses during the Spring semester, each worth 1.5 credits. Part-time students can choose from the same doctoral level courses available to full-time students. Finally, part-time students are required to complete Advanced Business Research Methods worth 3 credits.
