Jindal Global Law School
2016
Course: B.A.LLB
I think at a very grassroot level, JGU actually helped shape the way I think or approach issues in my career. JGU’s way of teaching is very unique in the legal education landscape in India, and its probably one of the only law schools which allow bare acts in the exam halls because all the questions are application based - this approach makes you actually understand the subject being taught rather than memorising pages for marks. Secondly, the quality of professors JGU has is unparalleled. Each and every faculty member is a strong name in the educational field. All the professors I had the opportunity to learn from taught me different aspects which I still practice in today’s date - from research methodology, developing soft skills, interpretation of the law to application of all these learnings to practical situations at work. A professor in JGU is not just a professor, but they operate more like a mentor and I still keep in touch with quite a few of them despite having graduated 8 years ago. JGU has been instrumental in teaching me to think on my feet and to adapt which has helped me a lot in the course of my career. It has taught me to never accept it when someone tells you that you can’t do it
Arjya B. Majumdar was assigned as my corporate law professor and his course was a huge reason behind some of my best internships, call-backs and pre-placement offers. His course goes over and above just the theoretical aspects of corporate law and actually teaches you the practical technicalities which is especially helpful while navigating those final year internships and the first couple of years of your career in corporate law, whether in a law firm or in an in-house position. He is a mentor to me even today. If I message or call him regarding a technical question or even career advice, I can always count on him to help me out.
After graduating in 2016, I secured my first job at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Bangalore in the M&A (now Deals) team. Subsequently I moved on to Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas and then Trilegal in their corporate and PE/VC practice respectively. Currently I am the Regional Counsel of a London-based venture capital fund called Entrepreneur First and I manage their India and Singapore investment portfolios. I am a fulltime lawyer and a full time mom
The biggest thing I pride myself on is the fact that I am a mom now to a 4 month old and I’ve restarted office as well. As a woman, we are always told that either children or career will have to take a backseat - and this is a mindset I strive to change in future. If you have supportive offices and family - there’s nothing a woman cannot do
