Strategic Partnerships for Social Impact
NGOs are transformative partners in JGU’s journey to realize the SDGs. Through strategic alliances with a wide array of civil society organizations working on environmental protection, legal aid, literacy, and social inclusion, JGU multiplies its capacity to address urgent campus, community, and national needs. These partnerships are guided by the university’s active presence in major international networks, including The Association of Commonwealth Universities, APAIE, CANIE Climate Action Network, HESI, NAFSA, EAIE, AACSB, and Nature Positive Universities. Engagement with these platforms provides JGU access to global best practices, collaborative frameworks, and resources necessary for impactful SDG advocacy, research, and implementation.
Sustainable Waste Management Initiatives
Embodying best practices from global sustainability forums, JGU’s Office of Sustainability, in partnership with HME Waste Management and the student group GAIA, launched campus-wide e-waste drives and installed permanent collection points. These initiatives, driven by both top-down expertise and grassroots participation, model responsible consumption, create healthy working environments for waste handlers, and raise awareness about the environmental and health consequences of e-waste all in alignment with broader international environmental movements.
Supporting Access to Education and Literacy
The university’s collaboration with the Mahadevi Library and Charitable Trust amplifies equity in education and social support. Donations of books, garments, and essentials serve children and families affected by socioeconomic challenges, furthering literacy and educational access within and beyond the campus community.
Field-Based Environmental and Biodiversity Conservation
Jindal School of Environment & Sustainability (JSES) partners with Parvat NGO to conduct winter camps in Himachal Pradesh focused on biodiversity, sustainable development, and the intersectionality of local ecology and livelihoods. These initiatives not only educate but also empower students to tackle complex regional issues, such as development impacts and illegal cultivation, with holistic, community-driven approaches.
Faculty-Led Outreach and Social Innovation
JGU faculty mentor students in social changemaking, collaborate with entities such as Solidarities and IDEAS to maximize outreach, and consult on diversity and youth empowerment for organizations including WeVow Foundation and IYRC. These expert-led initiatives infuse academic rigor and social sensitivity into JGU’s collaborative projects and extend the impact throughout diverse communities.
Integration with UNAI and One Step Greener
JGU’s commitment to the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) underpins its collaborative and reporting ethos, aligning campus operations and outreach with global principles of sustainable development. Locally, the university animates the One Step Greener campaign, encouraging every community member to adopt sustainable practices reducing waste, lowering carbon footprints, and leading responsible events. This initiative reflects the spirit of international environmental movements, and is embedded in policy, outreach programs, and student engagement.
Active Student Participation and Innovation
Students at JGU play a dynamic role in all NGO partnerships designing solutions, leading grassroots campaigns, and championing sustainable development locally. Their creativity and hands-on involvement ensure that collaborative projects are innovative, impactful, and responsive to real-world needs.
