Cross-sectoral dialogues about SDGs

Hosting Multi-Stakeholder Platforms
JGU is a hub for cross-sectoral dialogues that bring together academia, government, business, NGOs, and civil society to tackle pressing SDG challenges. The university has established a tradition of hosting flagship gatherings, such as annual SDG innovation conferences, law and climate action roundtables with regional governments, and entrepreneurship summits that showcase the work of green startups and innovative corporate partners. These platforms enable idea exchange, solution-driven collaboration, and strengthen networks for advancing sustainable development across sectors.

Collaborative NGO-led Field Courses
A notable example is the partnership between the Jindal School of Environment & Sustainability (JSES) and Parvat NGO in Himachal Pradesh. The educational winter camp on biodiversity conservation in Parvati Valley brings together students from diverse disciplines to examine the interplay between development, biodiversity, and local livelihoods. By exploring on-the-ground environmental issues, students and faculty gain insights into policy, ecological economics, and sustainable protection strategies while working closely with local communities.

Fostering Interdisciplinary Research Culture
The First Edition of the JGLS Editors’ Conference 2024 exemplifies JGU’s interdisciplinary approach to scholarship. Esteemed publishers and legal scholars engage in vibrant discussion around evolving trends in academic writing, strengthening JGU’s research community, and linking legal studies with social science and humanities.

Engaging Faculty in Global and Regional SDG Discourse
JGU faculty regularly contribute to national and international conferences, such as ICSSR-funded initiatives, national symposia, and the Indian Social Science Association Annual Conference. These forums allow the university’s experts to present research, exchange best practices, and discuss themes ranging from sustainable entrepreneurship, Industry 5.0, and legal aspects of climate change to mental health, equity, and international law.

Strategic Dialogues and Summit Leadership
JGU has been a key organizer for major SDG-focused events such as the World Universities Summit 2024, the G20 Universities Impact Summit, and the Bi-annual CSR Conclave. These programs, in collaboration with global academic, policy, and industry partners, have fostered high-level deliberation on SDG implementation, impact in higher education, lifelong learning, and international cooperation for social justice and institutional resilience.

Session Contributions and Specialized Conferences
Faculty and students have actively participated in workshops and panels on a wide variety of SDG themes, including intellectual property, environmental sanitation in national programs, regional trade, delimitation, climate change, and sustainable management practices. These sessions, such as workshops organized at Kerala Sustainability Conclave and the National Virtual Conference on Economic Dimensions in Judicial Decisions—help connect JGU’s academic insights directly to policy and grassroots impact.
