We are thrilled to announce that this summer, a group of students from the University of Virginia (UVA), USA embarked on a transformative academic journey at O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) in India. This unique program was designed to provide UVA students with hands-on experience in their respective fields, combined with an immersive exposure to Indian culture, education, and community life.
The University of Virginia (UVA) is a public research university established in 1819 by Thomas Jefferson in Charlottesville, Virginia. The UVA is one of the top-ranking universities worldwide with a rank of 260 in the QS World University Ranking 2024. The University is an iconic public institution of higher education, boasting nationally ranked schools and programs, diverse and distinguished faculty, a major academic medical center and proud history as a renowned research university. Enduring partnership between the University of Virginia and JGU has been transformative, fostering holistic learning and empowering global citizenship education. JGU, with its commitment to academic excellence and innovative research, complements UVA's mission, together shaping well-rounded global leaders ready to make a significant impact.
The program kicked off with a welcome ceremony at JGU's campus, where the UVA students were made familiar with the academic and cultural landscape. Throughout their internship, the UVA students were enrolled with the different Centres namely Centre for Environment, Sustainability and Human Development (Jindal School of Liberal Arts and Humanities) and Centre for International Legal Studies (Jindal Global Law School) at JGU, corresponding to their academic disciplines and career interests. Under the mentorship of JGU's esteemed faculty and industry experts, the students engaged in practical projects, research activities, and professional tasks. These hands-on experiences not only enhanced their technical and professional skills but also provided them with a global perspective on their fields of study.
The program also included several cultural excursions, allowing the interns to explore India's historical and cultural landmarks. Visits to iconic sites such as the Taj Mahal, the bustling markets of Delhi, and the serene landscapes of Kasauli offered a deeper appreciation of India's diverse heritage.
