International Student Experiences At JGU

Irina Lukashova (2024)- Saint Petersburg State University

I am Irina Lukashova, a final-year bachelor’s student at Saint Petersburg State University, specializing in Indo-Aryan philology. As part of my studies, I explored India and chose four courses at Jindal Global University: Development Debates: India and the World,” “Gender and Sexuality in Bollywood Cinema,” “The Other Side of Silence: How Women Wrote Partition,” and “Introduction to Translation.”

Each course provided a unique perspective on India. The Development Debates course compared Indian and Russian economic and political trajectories through engaging discussions. The Bollywood Cinema course explored Indian film history, character behavior, and review writing. The Partition Literature course focused on women’s narratives, enriched by the professor’s deep personal connection. The Translation course provided practical insights into translation techniques for natural fluency

My time at O.P. Jindal Global University was truly inspiring, thanks to its multidisciplinary approach to education and vibrant, diverse culture. The university provided a unique platform for rigorous academic exploration, deepening my understanding of global governance and India’s energy dynamics.

What truly set JGU apart was its commitment to values and history, exemplified by its pride in housing India’s first Constitution Museum. This remarkable tribute to India’s democratic heritage enriched my appreciation for constitutional principles and reflected the university’s dedication to fostering socially conscious individuals.

My experience at JGU was transformative, blending intellectual growth with cultural immersion, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of such an enriching academic environment.

One of the most surprising and delightful aspects of my time at O.P. Jindal Global University was its vibrant campus life. From festivals and cultural celebrations to concerts and various events, there was always something happening, ensuring that I was never bored. This dynamic atmosphere allowed me to immerse myself in India’s rich culture, making my experience even more meaningful.

The warm welcome from Indian students further enhanced my stay, creating a sense of belonging and connection. Academically and professionally, JGU provided incredible opportunities, including the chance to engage with esteemed figures in my field, broadening my career prospects. Looking back, I have no regrets about choosing India for my year abroad—it was a truly enriching experience, and I would gladly do it all over again.

My time at JGU, though just four months, was truly unforgettable! From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by the IAGI office, the dedicated inbound team for international students. Their kindness and guidance made my transition to campus life and India so much smoother. I quickly realized that JGU is a community filled with kind-hearted people. Through classes, sports, and outings, I made amazing friends and found support whenever I needed it—from both students and staff.

Campus life was made even more enjoyable by the excellent facilities, including cafés, libraries, and sports fields. JGU provides an environment where you can explore new opportunities and experiences beyond academics. I am deeply grateful to JGU, the professors, staff, and incredible students I met for making my experience so enriching and memorable!
