Sustainble Practices Targets

Setting targets for more sustainable commuting

Electric vehicles: JGU has invested in electric vehicles to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels in university-owned vehicles used regularly by our community. Our target is to increase the proportion of EVs each year.

Shuttle services for staff: JGU provides free-of-cost shuttle services for our academic and administrative staff, a majority of which reside in the vicinity of our campus. As part of the commute data collected for Scope 3 emissions accounting, we track the proportion of employees to avail this service, and we try to encourage each individual to opt for shuttles over personal vehicles.

Shuttle services for students: JGU provides shuttle services to our students and staff members to reach the nearest metro station. This service comes at a nominal cost, to encourage the use of public transportation.

No vehicle policy inside campus: JGU follows a strict no vehicle policy inside our campus. Neither personal, nor university-owned vehicles are allowed to pass through our pathways - with an exception for ambulances and solar powered golf carts. This practice makes the campus highly walkable, promotes pedestrian safety, and keeps the environment healthier.

Solar powered golf carts: JGU provides a fleet of golf carts that are solar powered as a convenient option to move within the campus, in addition to walking.

Measuring progress

Scope 3 emissions accounting: At JGU we value the importance of measuring and reducing our Scope 3 emissions (those across the value chain). We calculate our annual emissions for Category 7 - Employee Commuting, defined as, “Transportation of employees between their homes and their worksites during the reporting year (in vehicles not owned or operated by the reporting company).” We have refined and aligned our policies to ensure that JGU’s operations contribute to an year-on-year decrease in this category of emissions.
