Ethical sourcing

Procurement plays an important role in contributing to sustainable development. At JGU, we calculate GHG emissions across the value chain, including those produced due to the purchase of goods and services for the campus.

Responsible decision making

Our procurement team works closely with the Office of Sustainability to ensure that our partnerships prioritise sustainable products that have the lowest environmental impact and support social impact. To achieve this, we consider a range of options when purchasing goods and services and actively include the positive impacts in the total value of the purchase.

Product life-cycle

We prioritise reuse before purchasing new products. We assess the manufacturing and supply chain practices and consider how a new purchase can be disposed of or recycled.

Alignment with Net-Zero goal

Ethical sourcing helps us progress toward the goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2035 through the reduction of the carbon footprint associated with purchased goods and services under Scope 3 emissions.

Our partners

The University has secured the services of Sodexo for catering facilities, providing essential meals (breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner) open to students, faculty and staff. Sodexo is a French multi-national concern, and one of the largest food services and facilities management companies in the world. Sodexo’s own policies and procedures are followed in the JGU campus, including their ‘Responsible sourcing policy’.
