Student Council and Elected Representation
JGU encourages student participation in campus governance. For this purpose, the university and students have set up democratically elected student (union) councils across all its 12 schools. The student council oversees academic, professional and personal development of the students individually and as a group, in order to achieve overall excellence. The members also contribute in the academic and disciplinary proceedings and facilitate regular communication between the students, faculty members, administration and staff of JGU. The members of the student council are democratically elected and serve for a period of one academic year, comprising two semesters (Spring and Fall). The eligibility, qualifications and classifications for the different membership posts shall be established in the constitution governing the student council. The councils operate at the individual school level and all full time students are a part of it.

Student Representation in the JGU Governing Body
The JGU student council is very active and interacts twice a year with the senior administration pertaining to matters related to academics, employability, and life at JGU. The students directly interact with the Vice-Chancellor, and they have a very important role to play in the Governing Body.
The Committee on Gender Sensitisation Against Sexual Harassment (COGSASH) includes student members from every school of JGU. The administration and the student council ensure a 50% representation of females in constituting the Student members of COGSASH. The election of these student members is conducted by an independent body deemed to be the Election Commission. The Election Commission includes one outgoing Core Council Member of each school along with faculty members.

Student representation at the high-level University Gatherings:
At JGU, student representation is cherished and integral to our university’s ethos. We hold student voices in the highest regard, recognizing their invaluable perspective in shaping our institution’s future. Therefore, at all high-level university gatherings, such as the annual general meeting, we extend special invitations to members of the student council. Their presence ensures that the student community’s interests, concerns, and aspirations are not only heard but also actively considered in our decision-making processes.
