Sustainability & Impact at JGU

O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) has taken the important step towards creating a healthier and safer environment by aiming to adopt the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) postulated by the United Nations. JGU has set a global benchmark by undertaking unprecedented steps towards the growth of the nation as well as for the betterment of the society, its people and their environment. From setting up the Jindal School of Environment and Sustainability in 2019 to fill the gaps in environmental education & research and taking initiatives for minimising the use of natural resources and increasing production of renewable energy, to building partnership with institutions around the world for implementation of the SDGs, JGU has been at the forefront of global higher education institutions’ efforts towards ending poverty, protecting the planet, and ensuring that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by the end of 2030. By implementing the SDGs at JGU, a very futuristic definite step has been taken to create a green accounted, socially conscious campus which nurtures the idea that development must balance social, economic and environmental sustainability.

Commitment to meaningful education around the SDGs across JGU

As a multidisciplinary, research-driven university fostering excellence in teaching, research, community service, and capacity building, O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) has a commitment to meaningful education around the sustainable development goals (SDGs) across the university. A core objective of JGU is to nurture socially responsible leaders through a sustainable approach, and therefore, educating all students of the University — irrespective of their choice of programs — on the 17 SDGs postulated by the United Nations has become an absolute necessity. Concern for the environment and promotion of pluralism and celebration of diversity are among the core values that the University upholds.

Through interdisciplinary and experiential learning methods, JGU, which has taken the important step towards creating a healthier and safer environment by aiming to adopt the 17 SDGs, is engaged in efforts to create change makers who not only understand the global challenges but strive to find effective solutions to them.

The pedagogy and curricula at JGU are designed to help JGU graduates develop the capacity to engage in self-reflection and lifelong learning, the capacity to take up their social and civic responsibilities relating to the environment and the society, and a deep understanding of, and respect for, diversity, pluralistic societies and other cultures.

Not only does the University have dedicated courses aligned with the SDGs, JGU also encourages its staff and students to actively engage in outreach activities and programs that would aid the society to embrace sustainability in every sphere of activity.
