How to provide legal aid? An interactive workshop
The Centre from Law and Marginalisation Clinic, Centre for Justice, Law and Society (CJLS), Jindal Global Law School organised a skill based legal workshop. The workshop was an excellent opportunity to gain practical insights and hands-on knowledge on legal aid. This session was an engaging and interactive experience where students learnt about providing legal aid, directly from our team of lawyers, former clinic students and paralegals. They also learn how they can actively participate in these initiatives and contribute to making a difference.
Haryana Legal Aid Stakeholder’s Consultation
The “Haryana Legal Aid Stakeholder’s Consultation” was organised by the Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer Centre for Clinical Legal Education (Krishna Iyer Centre) at JGLS. The Krishna Iyer Centre engages in crucial legal aid work on trans justice, child rights, anti-caste advocacy, combating gender-based violence, criminal justice and decarceration, and environmental justice. Equality before law, fair trial and due process are fundamental principles, central to the assurance of justice and fairness. To truly ensure these, effective and accessible legal aid is essential for those unable to afford legal representation. In this context, the Krishna Iyer Centre at JGLS is committed to contributing to legal aid delivery in Haryana. To advance this purpose, a one-day multi-stakeholder consultation on “Haryana Legal Aid Stakeholder’s Consultation” was hosted to bring together legal aid stakeholders including the judiciary, lawyers, civil society groups, grassroots activists, movement actors, legal aid academics and lawyers in Haryana. This closed-door roundtable consultation aimed to create a collaborative platform for mapping critical issues and deliberating on the current legal challenges in Haryana. The was structured to include sessions on:
- Access to Justice for All (Plenary Session)
- Understanding the Justice Gap
- Institutional Perspectives on Legal Aid
- Building Legal Networks for Effective Legal Aid
