Energy Efficiency Services For Industry

JGU shares its research, expertise and convening power with industry, policymakers and the communities around it, to support the shift to efficient and clean energy. Our contribution comes through applied research on renewable energy options, funded projects with industry and government partners, workshops and public lectures that bring academics, practitioners and industry together, and policy-oriented work that shapes how clean energy is adopted in India.

Research on Renewable Energy Options

Our researchers study the practical questions that businesses and producers face when moving to cleaner energy. A funded study supported by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) examined the barriers to the adoption of off-grid solar-powered agricultural pumps among farmers in Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh, and it gives evidence that can guide how clean energy reaches rural enterprises. Our researchers also work on solar thermal systems, including a solar dish Stirling system and S-rib roughened solar thermal collectors, on hydropower and rooftop solar adoption in India, and on green hydrogen and energy policy. The Centre for Research on Digital Circular Economy for SDGs adds a research theme on the water, energy and food nexus, and our researchers are exploring innovative technologies such as piezoelectric tiles for energy harvesting and Direct Air Capture systems, through multinational partnerships.

Funded Projects with Industry and Government Partners

In 2025, JGU researchers started 13 new projects focused on the SDGs, working with research councils, industrial partners and other sponsors. Several of them connect directly with businesses and with climate action:

  • Indo-German Support Project for Climate Action in India: a project with Oxford Policy Management India Private Limited, led by Siddhartha Bhasker at Jindal Global Business School.

  • MSME Competitive (LEAN) Scheme: projects under the MSME Champions Scheme of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, for the HR 60 Cluster, led by Patanjal Kumar at Jindal Global Business School. They work directly with small and medium businesses to improve efficiency and competitiveness.

Policy Research for Industry and Government

The Centre for International Trade and Economic Laws (CITEL) worked on a project on renewable energy schemes in the United States and on local-content requirements for solar panels in Indian states, to assist the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. This kind of research informs how industry can invest in and benefit from India’s growing solar sector.

Research Strength in Sustainable Industry

Our researchers at Jindal Global Business School are among the most prominent in the world in topics that matter to industry. Their top research topics include the circular economy framework for sustainable development (99.98th percentile worldwide), sustainable supply chain management for industry advancement (99.89th percentile) and blockchain technology in sustainable supply chains (99.95th percentile). JGU is also the first institution in India to be approved as a University Partner by the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP), which links our teaching and research to professional practice in sustainability.

Workshops, Lectures and Industry Dialogue

We convene open sessions where industry, researchers and policymakers can learn from each other. On 5 March 2025, the Jindal School of Government and Public Policy hosted researchers from the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) for an open lecture on India’s energy transition, covering growth, emissions and supply-chain opportunities. The Centre for Environment, Sustainability and Human Development hosts public seminars such as “India’s Decarbonization Strategy: Progress and Challenges”, which covers renewable energy, electric vehicles, and efficiency and demand reduction.

Jindal Global Business School also held a two-day workshop on SDG 12 (Responsible Production and Consumption), linked to India’s G20 green and circular growth mission, on 25 and 26 November 2023 at the JGU campus, sponsored by ICSSR. The workshop aimed to help social science researchers act as change-makers through research on behavioural studies, education, business management and economics, and it included hands-on, results-oriented sessions that lay the groundwork for policy research supporting responsible production and consumption.

Our Own Campus as a Working Example

Our campus gives industry a working example of what efficient and clean energy looks like in practice. It combines 2.4 MW of on-site solar, which generated 25,56,308.4 kWh in 2025, 100% LED lighting, efficient air conditioning and drives, smart controls and an electric campus fleet of 20 golf carts, 30 electric bikes and 15 EV charging points. These measures are independently reviewed through annual energy, environment and green audits, which found a clear and significant shift towards energy efficiency and renewable generation.
