Foundation Courses
The foundation course are specifically designed to actively cultivate the inter-disciplinarity in the BALH graduates. These consist of a set of 20 courses based on broadly three themes. These courses are covered over a period of the first three semesters.
Ways of thinking courses
These 13 courses are meant to build up the theoretical foundation in a BALH graduate. This exposes a student to various disciplinary perspectives to approach various real-world problems.

- Statistical imagination
- Invitation to Philosophy
- Society, Space, Culture
- Economic Perspectives
- Environment and Sustainable Development
- Understanding Psychology
- Communications skill
- Foreign language (Spanish/ German/ French)
- Expressive arts
Interdisciplinary Seminar courses
This set of three seminar courses are discussion based and encourages participatory approach to education. In additional to classroom discussions, the students visit various places, including nearby villages. Our experience have shown that this course has helped shape their various prejudices and worldview. These courses include:
- Self and the World (ID-1)
- Telling Stories (ID-2)
- Participatory Research in Communities (ID-3)
Tools for thinking courses
Merely equipping a student with the ideas is not enough. They need to be trained in various tools and skills. These courses include:
- Scientific Imagination
- Digital Present
- Design Thinking
- Data Visualisation and Analysis
