Prof (Dr.) Hemant Manuj is Professor and Executive Dean at Jindal School of Banking & Finance, O.P. Jindal Global (Institution of Eminence Deemed to be University). He is a B.Tech. from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and a Fellow in Management (Finance & Control) from Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. He is also an Associate of the Institute of Cost & Works Accountants of India and a certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM) from Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP).

He teaches and researches in the areas of Corporate Finance, Portfolio Management, and Risk Management.

Prior to joining JGU, Prof Manuj was Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Finance & Economics at S P Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR).

Before shifting to the academic world, he worked for 25 years across multiple financial institutions and held leadership roles across multiple areas. His areas of work included securities regulation, fund management, risk management, loan portfolio management, stressed assets prediction and resolution, and regulatory planning and reporting.

He was a key member of the team that set up the Foreign Institutional Investors (FII) desk at the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), at the dawn of liberalisation of the Indian capital markets in the early 1990’s.

He later served as the Investment Strategist at Cholamandalam Cazenove Mutual Fund, which was a joint venture between the Murugappa group of India and Cazenove Partners of U.K.

For most part of his corporate career, he served as the Head of Market Risk, Asset Liability Management, and Portfolio Management at IDFC Ltd. He was instrumental in establishing and managing these key functions for over a decade. He last served as the Head of the Early Warning Signals (EWS) and Risk Regulatory Planning & Reporting functions at IDFC Bank. He was amongst the earliest bankers in India to have developed and worked on the framework for identifying and managing early warning signals (EWS) of potential distress across all business segments of the Bank. While at IDFC Ltd, and IDFC Bank, he played a significant role in establishing the policies, processes, reporting, and governance structures for their risk management practices.

Dr. Manuj has served on, as well as advised, various Committees of regulatory bodies like SEBI. He continues to regularly engage with several leading financial institutions in India through Board membership, consultancy and advisory services.
