As part of its flagship awareness initiative, the Centre for Community Mental Health (CCMH) of Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences (JIBS) organised a two-day Denim Day campaign on May 3 and 4, to stand in solidarity with survivors of sexual violence and challenge the culture of victim-blaming.
The campaign began with an interactive inaugural event featuring a knowledge board, message wall, and a call-to-action thumbprint chart that invited the campus community to reflect and engage. This was followed by a discussion circle led by the Peer Educator Initiative, where participants explored the role of media in shaping survivor narratives and public perceptions.
On the second day, an interdisciplinary panel discussion brought together experts in law, journalism, and media to critically examine the intersections of consent, culture, and systemic attitudes toward sexual violence. Later that day, a poster-making session and solidarity walk allowed students to express their support through creative expression and public demonstration.
The campaign also featured a film screening that deepened engagement with the theme-Denim Day 2025 at JGU marked a significant step in fostering sustained dialogue, media literacy, and community-led advocacy, affirming the university's ongoing commitment to building a more informed, empathetic, and inclusive space.
JIBS students visit NCPEDP
The second-year students of the Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Programme JIBS visited on May 1 the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP), New Delhi, to learn about the rights of people with disabilities, inclusive development, and policy-level advocacy. The visit was organised and guided by faculty members Dr. Vasundharaa Santhosh Nair and Dr. Irfan Fayaz.
The main objective of the field visit was to help students understand the working patterns of cross-disability organisations in shaping public policy, creating employment, and promoting accessibility and inclusion. This visit was designed to connect academic knowledge with grassroots-level advocacy work by exposing students to NCPEDP's strategic efforts in education, employment, and law reform for persons with disabilities.
Autism Awareness Month commemorated at JIBS
Commemorating the Autism Acceptance Month, the Rehabilitation Centre at JIBS organised an Autism Acceptance awareness initiative. Informative knowledge boards were thoughtfully curated and placed outside the Centre, offering key insights into ASD, support services, and inclusive practices. Strategically located just outside SAMA - the student lounge, the Rehabilitation Centre benefited from high visibility and footfall, enabling effective knowledge dissemination and greater engagement with students and faculty alike. This initiative was a meaningful step toward fostering an inclusive and informed academic environment.
