International Institute for Higher Education Research and Capacity Building (IIHEd) organised a one-day Principals' Conclave on school leadership to nurture global citizens. The event took place on November 30 at JGU's campus in Sonipat, Haryana, and on December 1 at JGU's International Academy at the Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi.
The gathering of about 55+ principals and school administrators of public and private schools in Delhi NCR and Sonipat discussed the possibilities and challenges of school leadership to nurture global citizens. The conclave featured three sessions, each focusing on the core components of global citizenship education. The sessions were conducted by JGU faculty members who are working in the field of global citizenship education.
The conclave deliberated on the following questions: ‘What role school leaders can play in nurturing global citizens?’; and ‘How can we engage with our Indian tradition and history while nurturing global citizens?’ The interactive sessions provided hands-on training for principals on how to integrate global citizenship education into their schools in the domains of curriculum development, pedagogy, and assessment.
The conclave was inaugurated by Professor Dabiru Sridhar Patnaik, Registrar, JGU. Ms. Tenzin Dolma, Lecturer, IIHEd, moderated the sessions. It provided a platform for principals to share best practices, experiences, challenges, and strategies for promoting global citizenship education. School leaders expressed that they face several challenges in implementing global citizenship education in their schools.
Feedback was gathered to assess the impact of the Principals' Conclave at the end of all the sessions. The majority of the participants agreed that the conclave helped them to understand the importance of global citizenship and the resource persons provided a clear framework for integrating global citizenship into the curriculum.
