JSJC alumna wins Laadli Media Award

Ms. Satvika Mahajan, Jindal School of Journalism & Communication (JSJC) alumna from the class of 2021, has been honoured with the Laadli Media Award for Gender Sensitivity 2025. She won the award for a story co-authored with Ashna Butani, published in The Hindu on Garima Grehs — shelter homes for transgender youth in India.

The Laadli Media Awards, hosted by Population First and supported by UNFPA, celebrate gender-sensitive journalism, storytelling, and communication. It honours those whose work challenges stereotypes and amplifies the voices of women and gender-diverse communities. This year's awards marked 15 years of partnership between Laadli and UNFPA. The competition this year drew 719 journalism entries, of which 609 were shortlisted. The winning stories shed light on gendered violence in digital spaces, women's resilience in rural economies, and inclusive narratives across science, cinema, and public policy.

Upon graduating, Ms. Mahajan pursued her passion for journalism first with the Millennium Post, and later with the national bureau of The Hindu, where she covered the political beat during the last general elections with depth and integrity. Currently, Satvika is pursuing her Master's in International and Development Studies at the Graduate Institute of Geneva, Switzerland.
