Mrinalini is interested in issues of inequality, poverty, and structural transformation in the Indian economy. She is an Assistant Professor in the Jindal Global University. She completed her PhD from the Delhi School of Economics at the University of Delhi. Her doctoral research focused on the economics of discrimination and unequal opportunities in economic well-being, and their impact on growth. She was a post-doctoral research fellow at the Centre for Sustainable Employment at the Azim Premji University. Her post-doctoral work revolved around documenting the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in India. She was a prime contributor to the income, inequality, and poverty analysis in the State of Working India 2021 report. She has taught undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Delhi, and at Azim Premji University. Her current research interests include wage polarization over the skill spectrum of workers in the Indian labour market, along with its intersection with other social identities. Beyond Economics, she is also interested in the related zones of sociology and politics of caste and gender.
