JIBS holds World Conference on Criminology

Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences (JIBS), in collaboration with the International Society for Criminology (ISC-SIC), Paris, held the four-day World Conference on Criminology (WCC) 2025 at JGU campus from June 19 to 22. The event brought together over 700 delegates including 40+ international speakers from 25 countries across 6 continents and delegates from 25 states and union territories from India. The conference hosted more than 450 individual presentations across 120+ thematic sessions.

The conference provided a platform for scholars, academics, practitioners, thought leaders, government representatives and students from around the world to participate in interdisciplinary dialogue on topics such as cybercrime, restorative justice, gender and crime, policing reforms, environmental criminology, systemic challenges in justice systems, global crime trends, role of behavioural sciences in policymaking, and emerging digital threats. The diversity of sessions reflected the evolving landscape of criminological concerns and the need for evidence-based policies. The conference enriched the global criminological discourse and highlighted India's growing influence in the field.

"The World Conference on Criminology has powerfully reaffirmed that when scholars, practitioners, and institutions come together across borders, we can meaningfully confront the most complex issues of crime, justice, and human rights," said Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice Chancellor of JGU. "Bringing this global gathering to India is not just a milestone for JGU; it is a moment of recognition for the intellectual energy emerging from the Global South. It reflects our deep belief that academic institutions must actively shape the world through knowledge, research, and a bold commitment to justice."

Prof. (Dr.) Pulkit Khanna, Dean of JIBS and Convenor of WCC, underscored the importance of international cooperation, "At a time when societies around the world are facing complex security and justice challenges, this conference stands as a beacon of hope and scholarly rigour. It is a privilege to witness such a diverse and committed community of researchers and practitioners come together to push the boundaries of our understanding in criminology."

Stephan Parmentier, Secretary General of ISC-SIC, Paris, and co-convenor of WCC, remarked: "The collaboration with JGU and JIBS has been extraordinary. This conference stands out for not only its scale and participation but also its ambition to confront urgent global challenges with intellectual rigour and cultural sensitivity. It has truly exemplified the spirit of global criminology."

Dr. Vipin Vijay Nair, Co-convenor of the World Conference on Criminology 2025 and Associate Professor at JIBS, remarked: "The conference is not just an academic gathering but a testament to our collective resolve to understand, challenge, and reimagine justice in an increasingly complex world. At JIBS, we believe in creating spaces where research meets relevance and where global knowledge intersects with local realities. This conference reflects our enduring commitment to fostering dialogue that transforms systems and empowers communities."
