JGLS’s pedagogy is regularly modified to suit the students from diverse backgrounds. Faculty members provide course readings to the students, drawing from their research outcomes to help students have fresh perspectives.

Innovations in Teaching:

  • Use of simulation games as a teaching tool in the innovations list. In partnership with Fields of View. This NGO undertake research at the intersection of technology, social sciences, and art to design tools. We have used these simulations, which are game theory applications, to add an element of experiential learning into both the MA and undergraduate programmes.
  • Another innovation is introducing the Capstone project component into Public Policy curriculum. JSGP and JSIA students, with The Asia Foundation support, have prepared a draft ‘White Paper’ “India’s Development Cooperation Policy”. This policy is slated for a public discussion on campus.
  • Qualitative Research seminar for PhD students across all Schools: JSGP offers a qualitative research course for PhD students. This is the only research methodology course available to PhD students and research associates.
  • United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF), with JSGP and Royal University of Bhutan organized “Technical Support for Institutionalization of Programme on Social Policy” to benefit Bhutan members of parliament and senior officials in government and civil society organisations over three weeks at Sherubste College, Kanglung, East Bhutan, during February 2016.
  • Pre-dissertation workshop conducted for Masters Students introduce them to Research Culture and prepare them for research writing.
