In this increasingly digital, interdisciplinary and global environment, JSJC is committed to providing a vibrant scholarly setting where students learn to question the status quo as they acquire the skills and knowledge that will enable them to excel in a career in journalism or another communication field.

We equip our students with critical thinking and leadership skills rooted in a global, interdisciplinary perspective. The real-world focus and interdisciplinary nature of the programme prepare students for a variety of endeavours.

Some of the areas that our students are building careers in are:

  1. News Media: Print, Broadcast and New Media including Websites and Social Media
  2. Communication: Social Media, Content Writing, Proposal and Grant Writing, Report Writing, Strategic Communication
  3. Media and Entertainment: Film, Advertising, Features, Content Creation for Social Media
  4. Academia: Media Studies, Cultural Studies, Film Studies, Gender Studies, Politics, Sociology, Anthropology
  5. Civil Society: NGOs, Think Tanks, Development Organizations
  6. Publishing: Editing, Commissioning

JGU also has an Office of Career Service (OCS) on campus, with a team of professionals to assist and guide students in building resumes and portfolios. The OCS facilitates internship opportunities within the country and abroad in news outlets and communication departments. The team at OCS also helps students in their final year acquire placements in firms across the country.
