Startup India Competition 2021

The Startup India Competition 2021 is being conducted by the Jindal School of Banking & Finance (JSBF), O.P. Jindal Global (Institution of Eminence Deemed To Be University). The competition is open for Indian students currently in their Class 12 and expecting to graduate this year, that is, 2021.

“JSBF seeks novel, innovative and high-impact business ideas from class 12 students for starting a new venture. The competition will run from February to July 2021.”

The competition will not only provide a great opportunity for participants to present their ideas to a power packed jury of Entrepreneurs, VCs, Corporate Honchos and Professors but the top six teams will also receive attractive cash prizes and recognition for their brilliant ideas from O.P. Jindal Global (Institution of Eminence Deemed To Be University).

Last date to submit entries is Saturday, 10th July 2021

First prize (one team)

  •     Rs. Rs. 60,000 cash reward

Second prize (two teams)

  • Rs. 40,000 cash reward.

Third prize (three teams)

  • Rs. 20,000 cash reward
  • Details of the winners will be published online on the JSBF website and JGUs social media handles.
  • Certificate to each member of the team, personally signed by the Vice Chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global (Institution of Eminence Deemed To Be University), India’s No.1 ranked private university.

Round 1:

  1. A team should consist of 2 to 3 members. A one-member team is not allowed.
  2. A team needs to deliberate and come up with a new business idea; something which does not exist currently.
  3. The new business idea can be of a new product or a service, and can belong to any industry.
  4. Business idea needs to be clearly articulated and submitted in a standardized format which can be downloaded from here (also at the bottom of this page).
  5. The business idea needs to be emailed to StartupIndiaCompetition2021@jgu.edu.in in the standardized format.
  6. A JSBF committee will shortlist the top business ideas from the submitted entries in Round 1.  

Round 2

  1. Shortlisted entries to be invited to make an online presentation before a jury involving external experts, including VCs, entrepreneurs and top corporate executives.
  2. 10 minutes presentation and 20 minutes Q&A. Total 30 minutes for each team.
  3. Q&A will be on the proposed idea for a new business venture.
  4. Committee will shortlist the top 3 ideas/teams.

  • Why do you think your business start-up idea is novel in the Indian context?
  • Why do you think your business start-up idea is technically feasible?
  • Which contemporary Indian problem your start-up business idea aims to address?

Criteria for Selection and assessment

  1. Clarity of the business start-up idea- Is the business start-up idea clearly articulated? Does it make sense logically?
  2. Novelty of the Idea- How novel is the idea being proposed? Has the idea been implemented before in the Indian context?
  3. Feasibility of the idea- Is the business idea being proposed technically possible to implement?
  4. Addressing a contemporary problem in the Indian context- Does the business idea solve a current problem that the country faces?
  5. An understanding of the various issues related to the idea implementation- Do the team members have an appropriate understanding of the implementation challenges that might surface and a sound plan to deal with those challenges?
