Pratik Tarafdar is a doctoral student at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta in the department of Management Information Systems. Before joining the Ph. D. programme, he has worked at Tata Consultancy Services as a data analyst for about three years. He holds an M.Sc. degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Calcutta and a B.Sc. degree in Mathematics from Presidency College, University of Calcutta.
His doctoral thesis is in the area of immersive technologies where he investigates the affordances of Augmented Reality (AR) technology in e-commerce. His research interests include emerging technologies (such as robotics, conversational agents, AR, VR, and MR), machine learning, business analytics, and cybersecurity. His teaching interests include managerial computing using R, business data mining, digital transformation, and digital security and privacy.
One of his research works is published in the Journal of Organizational Computing and Electronic Commerce (ABDC A). He has also presented his work in reputed international conferences such as International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS), and ACM SIGMIS Computers and People Research. He has developed teaching cases for Indian Institute of Management Calcutta’s Case Research Centre (IIMC-CRC). He has reviewed research articles for reputed journals such as Communications of the AIS, Information Systems Frontier, Information and Management, and for several international conferences.
