Biography

Dr. Sumit Kumar Jaiswal is an Assistant Professor at Jindal Global University (JGBS). He earned his Ph.D. in Strategy from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, where his dissertation, Rise and Fall: Essays on Survival and Failure of New Ventures, examined dynamics of entrepreneurial success and failure in emerging markets. His research interests include early-stage venture financing, startup failure and termination, accelerators and incubators, entrepreneurial networks, minority entrepreneurship, corporate entrepreneurship, and corporate governance.

His work has been presented at leading international forums such as the Academy of Management, Babson College Entrepreneurship Research Conference, and the Academy of International Business. He has received several distinctions, including the Best Doctoral Research Paper Award at the India Management Research Conference (IIM Ahmedabad, 2024), Best Paper Award in Entrepreneurship at ANZMAC (New Zealand, 2023), and Runner-up Best Paper at the India Strategy Conference (IIM Bangalore, 2023). In 2025, he was among 25 doctoral scholars globally selected for the Babson Doctoral Consortium. His current research is under review in leading journals.

Professionally, he worked with Larsen & Toubro as a Senior Engineer and co-founded Golmol Foods, a venture in the healthy food space. As a Buddha Fellow, he partnered with rural communities in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat to establish grassroots enterprises, including a women-led catering business and livelihood initiatives. 

At JGU, Dr. Jaiswal aims to combine rigorous research, innovative teaching, and practice-based insights to develop future leaders and entrepreneurs.

Received Best Paper award in the entrepreneurship track for the paper titled “New Venture Legitimacy and First Funding” at the ANZMAC conference 2023, New Zealand

Received Best Paper (Runner-up) award for the paper titled “Beyond Borders: The Role of Cohort Size and International Presence in Accelerators on Startup Funding Outcomes” at the India Strategy Conference, 2023, IIM Bangalore
