Prof. Kirti Tyagi is pursuing her Ph. D. at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, in the area of teens, risky decision making, and domain-specific risk-taking. She completed her Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Psychology from Jesus and Mary College, Delhi University, where she was laurelled for being the college topper and university rank holder. She then pursued her Master’s in Applied Psychology from the Faculty of Arts, University of Delhi and secured second rank in the master’s program and received South Campus Endowment Scholarship for meritorious students. She has also received several travel scholarships, summer school sponsorships, and academic awards.

Kirti’s doctoral research investigates personality, contextual and cognitive factors associated with positive and negative risk behaviors in early, middle, and late adolescents across different educational setups. Her Ph.D. work explores the adolescent’s meanings of risk-taking and develops a new theoretical model for understanding positive risk-taking. As part of her Ph.D. work, she has also developed a new scale for assessing domain-specific positive risk taking. Her research will further contribute to understanding how context and culture shape adolescents’ risk-taking propensity. She recently worked on a project with UNSECO MGIEP on developing an SEL/PVE-based game for their peace game challenge, where she served as an SEL expert and contributed in developing game narration and interventions for the game “REVERSE”. She also worked as a research assistant for an IIT Delhi project sponsored by RUTAG to increase awareness among the rural population about mental health. She contributed by developing research-based content modules for ten videos on various topics.

Apart from this, for her undergraduate honors project, she worked on investigating the construct of spiritual intelligence and quality of life among emerging college adults and is interested in exploring youth spirituality in India. For her master’s dissertation, Kirti has investigated the psychological predictors of existential anxiety in the young and elderly. She did her master’s summer project with Prof. S.P.K. Jena, at the University of Delhi, where she worked on a project titled “Social skill intervention for adolescents with Asperger’s Syndrome: A single-case design study.

Currently, she is working on a project sponsored by Global Youth Mobilization to spread awareness about mental health and peace education in marginalized communities of India.

She served as the Graduate Teaching Assistant for courses like Introduction to Psychology, Value education, Research writing for PhDs, Selected Topics in Psychology (Judgment and decision making), and others at IIT Delhi from 2018 to 2021.
Kirti is serving as an executive committee member for the National Association of Positive Psychology India and is also an emerging nation member for the Society of Research in Adolescence, USA. She is also a certified Training Aspiring Psychologist (TAP) from Children’s First India.
