The Jindal School of Environment & Sustainability aims to lead the world towards a sustainable future with cutting-edge teaching, research and practice-based engagement. The school will promote interdisciplinary research work spanning different environmental issues including, environmental management, environmental policy and regulation, natural resources management, environmental ethics, environmental justice, climate change, environmental health, ecology and conservation.

JSES is being led by renowned environmentalist and an accomplished scholar, Professor (Dr.) Armin Rosencranz as Dean. An alumnus of Princeton and Stanford, Prof. Rosencranz has taught Climate, Energy and Global Environmental Law at Boalt Hall- UC Berkeley, Golden Gate Law School and Georgetown Law School.

Core and Elective Courses

The three-year B.A. (Hons.) in Environmental Studies at JSES will offer undergraduate students a concentration in environmental studies with an opportunity to explore how humans interact with the environment, including physical, biological, philosophical, social and legal elements.

This includes forests and other public spaces, land use, all forms of energy, climate change, air, water and toxic chemical pollution, wetlands and delta management, transport and transport fuels, sustainability, environmental crimes, biodiversity and wildlife protection, food security, urban environmental issues, natural resources conservation and management, corporate social responsibility, environmental justice, and norms of international environmental law and policy.

The program will also consist of student-initiated projects that put theory into practice with real world impact.

A degree in environment and sustainability equips you with the holistic perspective and key skills necessary for roles in a range of career areas, including conservation and sustainability. You'll also develop a broader set of transferable skills, including:

  • planning and project-management skills
  • the ability to gather, analyse and communicate complex technical data to others

Admission Process

Applicants to B.A. (Hons.) Environmental Studies programme at JSES must have successfully passed the examination at the 10+2 level of schooling or its equivalent. Students completing grade 12 in 2021 can also apply.

Candidates will be selected through a holistic admissions process conducted over three rounds based on a personal statement, supplemental question, X and XII Grade Marks, Faculty Interview and at par JSAT/SAT/ACT score. Applicants must fill the B.A. (Hons.) Environmental Studies admission form at and register for JSAT at JSAT is an online home-proctored exam, which allows the candidate to write this exam safely at home.
