Prof. Prateek Bhattacharya graduated with a B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) degree from National Law University, Jodhpur with a specialization in Trade and Investment Law. He received the prestigious DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst) scholarship to pursue further studies in European Law. As a DAAD scholar, he received his LL.M. degree from Europa Institut, Universität des Saarlandes with specializations in European Law, International Dispute Resolution, and Trade Law and was also exposed to subjects such as Law of the Internal Market of the European Union, European Competition Law, Law of the Economic and Monetary Union, and European Fundamental Rights.

Thereafter, he joined in the competition law practice of the erstwhile law firm Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A. Shroff & Co. which subsequently changed to Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co., which he left in 2018 in the capacity of Senior Associate, to make the change to academia. While in private practice, Prateek often dealt with matters concerning EU Competition Law, due to the significant impact of the law and practice of the EU regulator, on the jurisprudence and practice of the Competition Commission of India. Prateek’s exposure ranged from cases concerning dominant enterprises to collusive conduct and vertical restraints arising out of anti-competitive agreements, to in-depth analyses of the anti-competitive effects of mergers on businesses across the world.
