Prof. Souradeep Mukhopadhyay is an Assistant Professor of Law and Assistant Dean (Research & Innovation) at Jindal Global Law School. An intellectual property, data privacy and technology law enthusiast, he holds an LL.M. degree from Harvard Law School and a B.A. LL.B. degree from Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab, where he was the recipient of the Chancellor’s Gold Medal as well as the Justice Kesho Ram Passey’s Medal for Best Overall Performance.

Before joining Harvard, Prof. Mukhopadhyay was a Senior Associate in the litigation department of Anand & Anand, one of India’s leading intellectual property law firms. During his time at the firm, he regularly represented clients before the High Court of Delhi and the Supreme Court of India, as well as in complex mediations and negotiations. He has vast experience in advising and representing clients from a wide array of industries, including social media giants, major FMCG players, automobile manufacturers and innovator pharmaceutical companies.

  1. Represented leading businesses from various sectors, including AstraZeneca, Facebook, Ferrero, Marriott, Verizon, and Volvo, in high-stake IPR disputes before the High Court of Delhi, the Supreme Court of India, and in mediation/negotiation proceedings.
  2. Advisory and compliance work in privacy and data protection (EU GDPR and Indian law). Online trademark and copyright infringement, cyber fraud, and anti-counterfeiting measures.
  3. High-stake pharmaceutical patent disputes; Represented AstraZeneca in pharmaceutical patent disputes pertaining to diabetes drug, Dapagliflozin, which set the Indian law on genus-species patent validity.
  4. Worked briefly on Standard Essential Patent (SEP) disputes involving mobile devices (InterDigital).
