The Fourth

Undergraduate Research Conference

Jindal School of Liberal Arts & Humanities

Date: 3 – 4 April, 2020

Venue: O.P. Jindal Global University

Sonipat- Narela Road, Sonipat 131001, Sonipat Haryana

We are delighted to announce that the Fourth Undergraduate Research Conference on Liberal Arts and Humanities will be held on 3rd and 4th of April, 2020 at the O.P. Jindal Global University, Sonipat. This marks the continuation of the success of our conferences from 2017-2019.

The world today is characterized by a questioning and distrust of established institutions. Manipulating data, ignoring facts, hypocrisy in leadership, and self-aggrandizing politics is obstructing serious engagement with pivotal contemporary issues. This puts a strain on civil society and institutional frameworks designed to promote human capabilities, and necessitates a dramatic reorganization of social receptivity to new ideas.

Humanities and Liberal Arts colleges assume a special position in this context. They are central in imparting an interdisciplinary education that cultivates empathy and sensitivity to community service. They are in a unique position to facilitate the production of citizens who can critically engage in debates around political, social, economic, environmental, cultural and ethical discourses. They, therefore, can be instrumental in encouraging their students to radically rethink some of the basic assumptions around the operation of societal structures.

Some of the best ideas lie in the minds of the young, for they are the largest stakeholders in the future. This conference aims to hear from them, and help refine their research ideas while they undertake their undergraduate studies. Not only will this be an opportunity for them to offer their fresh ideas while they learn, it will also be an opportunity for them to get acquainted with the process and rigour of identifying and establishing linkages between critical themes of contemporary disciplines, understanding sound research design and methodology.

Additionally, the conference will stimulate interaction between students and faculty from varied social science and humanities disciplines. Students from around the country are invited to present their research before faculty, staff and other conference participants. Themes related to liberal arts, humanities, earth and environmental sciences, and different forms of expressive arts are welcome.

This is a unique initiative during which students and their mentors will celebrate discovery in a participatory forum that encourages collective inquiry and collaboration. The idea is to enable young researchers to trust their insights and develop professional practices in an eclectic audience of fellows and mentors. Research projects must have been conducted under the supervision of a faculty member or professional in the field. Particular emphasis will be laid upon promoting interdisciplinary studies that look at the connections between diverse ideas and interests. The Conference aims to create a network of undergraduate scholars and bring into this network faculty members and experts of various fields.

Presentations will mainly take one of three forms: oral, poster and exhibits (mentioned below).
