Jindal School of Liberal Arts and Humanities’ faculty development committee invites you to a talk by Dr. Aliya Naz, Assistant Professor at JSLH, entitled, Climate Events and Geological Linkage –Lessons from Cyclone Biporjoy.

The talk will be held on Wednesday, 16th April, at the Big Bang Conference Room, First Floor, Prithviraj Jindal Academic Block (T1), from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. We look forward to your participation.

Abstract:
Climate events such as cyclones and floods affect soil composition through erosion and sediment deposition. This connection is emphasized by Cyclone Biporjoy, which hit Gujarat, Kachhch region on 16th June 2023. Our research revealed that Biporjoy acts as an air conveyor, bringing phosphorus (an important macronutrient that facilitates plant growth)-rich dust to Banni Grassland in Kachchh, India from the deserts of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). This nutrient transfer increases the region's agricultural and ecological resilience. This interconnection between geological composition and climate events accentuates how crucial it is to comprehend how this impacts ecosystems and nutrient cycles.
