Centre for the Study of Global International Relations (CSGIR)

The Centre for the Study of Global International Relations is India’s first academic association dedicated to multidisciplinary research and analyses in the non-Western and post-Western traditions of International Relations (IR) – a growing sub-field widely known as ‘Global IR’. Established in 2022 at the Jindal School of International Affairs (JSIA), CSGIR is committed to the agenda of making the academic discipline of IR more inclusive (or more ‘Global’) by outspreading its theoretical and empirical foundations beyond Eurocentric limits. In line with the transcontinental outlook of this agenda, CSGIR inspires research collaborations with leading academics, practitioners, policy-analysts, journalists, and social-activists affiliated with diverse universities/institutions/think-tanks/media-houses/(I)NGOs in Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, South America, and Australia

  • Exploring the untapped non-Western world-views, knowledge-forms, and narratives to construct a resourceful theoretical framework to grasp contemporary global politics.
  • Employing the established Indian, Chinese, African, Latin American, Islamic and other non-Western/post-Western IR theoretical formulations to explain particular issue-areas (e.g., global pandemic, climate change, economic crises, arms and technology race, terrorism, nuclear politics, trade war, civil or inter-state war) or general world order.
  • Executing quantitative, qualitive, and mixed-method study to design creative solutions to foreign-policy-problems. In this context, the aim is to translate the complementarities between Western and non-Western worlds into doable policy-actions – the Centre sponsors a ‘decentering agenda’ to highlight the West–non-West complementarities that are mandatory not only to comprehend global multipolarity but also to reconstitute an ethically effective Western agency in non-Western worlds, and vice versa.

● Research Training Services

CSGIR forms ‘Research Training Groups’ to familiarize young/early-career scholars with cutting-edge research innovations in non-Western/post-Western/Global IR.
