Biography

Sonia Rani currently serves as a Lecturer and Special Educator at the Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences (JIBS), O.P. Jindal Global University. In addition, she is the Assistant Director at the Centre for Community Mental Health (CCMH) and an active member of the Disability Support Committee (DSC).

She completed both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Rehabilitation Science from the PG and Research Department of Rehabilitation Science and Special Education, Holy Cross College (Autonomous), affiliated with Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli. Sonia has been recognized with a Gold Medal, Best Outgoing Student Award, and the Leadership Award for Excellence as a Student Council Member. She also pursued part of her Master's program at Howest University, Belgium, through the Indo-Belgium Scholarship. Before joining JGU, she worked as an Assistant Professor at Holy Cross College, teaching courses such as Intellectual Developmental Disability, Sign Language, Educational Assessment, Human Growth and Development, and Personality Development across diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate programs.

Sonia’s current research focuses on students with mental health conditions in higher education, aiming to develop effective interventions to support their well-being. She is passionate about outreach programs, professional networking, and advocating for accessible education. Through her involvement in the Disability Support Committee, Sonia ensures that students with disabilities receive appropriate accommodations and equal opportunities.
