Poulomi Bhadra is an Assistant Professor and Assistant Director at the Office of Interdisciplinary Studies (IDEAS) at JGU. As a forensic scientist turned criminologist, she works at the intersection of evidence, law, psychology, media and philosophy. Her research emphasizes bridging disciplines, with a current focus on globalizing South criminology. In 2020, she founded the Centre for Criminology and Forensic Studies at JGU. She has taught courses on Forensic Psychology, Investigative and Legal Psychology, Crimes & Media, Forensic Science and others.
Bhadra previously worked with the London Metropolitan Police at the Natural History Museum, London, conducting forensic entomology research. She is currently co-leading the Constellation on Transitional Spaces, Culture and Media Studies at IDEAS. She is also actively involved in action research with NGOs like India Vision Foundation and Raise Global Health, Netherlands.
Bhadra's work has been featured on BBC, The Independent, The Wire, and other outlets. She is presently a member of the South Asian Society of Victimology and Criminology, the Academic Council of United Nation Systems, the European Society for Criminology and the Chartered Society of Forensic Science, UK. She is also part of the Membership and Advancement Committee of the World Society of Victimology. In 2023, she co-directed the ACUNS General Workshop on “Blueprints for Local and Global Responses to Worldwide Challenges: Understanding the Role of the United Nations in Capacity Building.”
She is a member on the International Advisory Board of the Criminology and Criminal Law Review Journal and has reviewed for prestigious publications such as Forensic Science International, Journal of Forensic Psychology Research and Practice, International Journal of Evidence & Proof and Jindal Global Law Review. She has served as a mentor for the Challenges Abroad programme and supervised projects with international institutions, including Jagiellonian University and Ashoka University. Since 2023, she has been a technical mentor for Project EduAccess.
