Bachelor of Science (Jiwaji University, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India) Master of Forensic Science, Ph.D. Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya (A Central University) Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, India.
Dr. Girraj Sharma is a prominent forensic scientist specializing in forensic chemistry and toxicology. His career began as an assistant professor at the Government Institute of Forensic Science in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India, where he laid the foundation for his expertise in forensic science. In December 2014, Dr. Sharma qualified for the National Eligibility Test-Junior Research Fellowship (NET-JRF), which paved the way for his advanced studies and research.
Dr. Sharma earned his Ph.D. from Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya (A Central University) in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, India. His doctoral research focused on developing a rapid, simple, and highly sensitive liquid chromatography method to analyze commonly used antibiotics—amikacin, amoxicillin, ciprofloxacin, ceftriaxone, and metronidazole—in hospital wastewater. This work led to the innovative application of micellar liquid chromatography (MLC) for detecting these antibiotics. His MLC method is distinguished by its ability to analyze complex biological samples directly without pre-treatment, providing high sensitivity and selectivity.
In 2022, he further demonstrated his expertise by qualifying for the Forensic Aptitude and Caliber Test (FACT Plus) in Forensic Chemical Sciences, organized by the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
Dr. Sharma's contributions extend beyond research into education. He co-authored e-Contents for undergraduate forensic science courses with the Educational Multimedia Research Center at Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya. His role included subject mapping, course preview, and text editing, which supports the academic growth of students in forensic science.
His research addresses the growing concern of antibiotic pollution and emerging contaminants, wastewater, soil, food hospital wastewater etc. By developing a method to detect unmetabolized antibiotics in hospital wastewater, Dr. Sharma's work helps tackle the environmental impact of pharmaceutical pollutants and supports efforts to protect ecosystems and public health.
Dr. Sharma's innovative approaches and dedication to forensic science and forensic toxicology and chemistry continue to impact research and education, reflecting his commitment to advancing knowledge and addressing real-world challenges in forensic and environmental sciences.
