Assistant Professor of Legal Practice, Research Associate, Centre for Women’s Rights

B.A. LL.B. (Hons.)(WBNUJS, Kolkata);

LL.M. (SOAS University of London)

Prof. Diksha graduated with a B.A. LL.B. from the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata in 2016 and holds an LLM in Human Rights, Conflict and Justice from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London on the Felix Scholarship. Prior to joining JGLS, she worked at the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy as a JALDI (Justice, Access and Lowering Delays in India) Fellow where she researched the lack of diversity within the lower judiciary, among other things. At Vidhi, she was also part of the Queering the Law project which looked at how Indian laws could be made LGBTQ+ inclusive. She has also worked at the Centre for Law and Policy Research in Bangalore as a Litigation and Research Associate where she litigated in the areas of transgender, women and disability rights.

Diksha is passionate about the interrelationship between law and social change especially in the context of queer and feminist movements. Her master’s thesis explored the continuities and ruptures between queer and feminist theory in the context of domestic violence. She is also interested in researching the legal regulation of non-normative intimacies, care and vulnerability within contemporary neoliberal structures.

Apart from fostering cats, running marathons and experimenting with ‘healthy’ cooking, Diksha loves trying her hand at podcasts and helped develop a pilot, legal podcast called ‘Complete Justice’ for JGLS.
