Prof. Immanuel graduated with a B.A.B.L. (Hons.) degree from the School of Excellence in Law, Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai. She received her LL.M. in Public International Law with a specialization in conflict laws from Utrecht University, Netherlands in 2015.
Prior to joining JGU, she worked with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), first as a Refugee Status Determination Assistant from 2016 to 2018 and then as a Protection Associate till June 2019. She has also worked with the Public International Law and Policy Group for the Netherlands from 2014 to 2015. She has served as an Executive Editor with the Utrecht Journal of International and European Law.
Her areas of research include public international law, statelessness and refugee law. She is also interested in transitional justice, international criminal law and peace-building. She is a Research Fellow with the Centre for Public Interest Law where she engages in research on citizenship law and statelessness.
Outside of work, she enjoys cooking and writing poems.
