Educational Background

Shambhavi S. has been associated with JGU since December 2019 and ever since has worked here in different capacities and various institutional building projects. Prior to her joining, she graduated with Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from NLU Patna, post-graduated from Trinity College in Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law (2019). Her thesis on “IP in Fashion Industry: Perspective on Fashion Copycats” secured her first division grade. She further specialised with an Advanced LL.M. in European Union Intellectual Property Law from Stockholm University, Sweden (2023), where she explored the intersection of morality and IP laws in her thesis on “Marks & Morality: Genesis and Role of Average Consumer & Dichotomy of Moral Exclusions vis-à-vis Freedom of Expression”.

In addition to these degrees, she has completed numerous specialized courses, including Fashion Law Certificate Course (2024), the EUIPO Advanced Course on Public Order and Morality (IP) (2023), Sustainable Fashion Course from Copenhagen Business School (2020), and Management of Fashion and Luxury Companies Course from the University of Bocconi (2020), WIPO courses and WIPO-India Summer School (2017), and IP focused-courses from FICCI.

Throughout her legal education, Shambhavi gained extensive practical experience through internships at various prestigious organizations. She interned with the National Commission for Women, New Delhi, where she had the fortunate opportunity to work on issues pertaining to gender justice and policy reform, participate in the NCW Conference organised post Nirbhaya. Additionally, she trained at Sai Krishna & Associates, a top-tier law firm in Noida specializing in intellectual property law. She also interned at the Competition Commission of India at Delhi, working on critical antitrust law matters, research work and presentation on ‘Harmonization of the Competition Policies & the IP Law – Case Study on the Fashion Industry’. Furthermore, she gained invaluable litigation experience while working under Senior Advocates at the Supreme Court of India. These experiences have provided her with a solid foundation in both policy and litigation.

Teaching Experience

At Jindal Global Law School, Shambhavi has taught core legal courses including Law of Torts, Professional Ethics, Legal Research and Methodology, and Law of Contracts. She has also assisted with advanced elective course like Advanced Tort Law. Beyond the undergraduate curriculum, she has supervised LL.M. theses and contributed to the Blended LL.M. course on Legal Research and Methodology cohorts. Externally, Shambhavi has taught Intellectual Property focused Fashion Law courses.

Administrative Roles

From 2021-2022, Shambhavi served as the Assistant Dean for Career Services at JGLS. In this capacity, she provided guidance to students on internship related aspects, higher education opportunities, and career planning. She was instrumental in organising conferences, policy drafting, developing and conducting the JGLS Judicial Services Lecture Series (as part of a team), and actively participated as a member of the Unfair Means Committee.

Research Interests

With a rich academic background in Intellectual Property Law, Fashion Law, and European Union Law, she demonstrates her focused interests in the intersection of law and creative industries. Her research field also focuses on sustainable fashion and the legal challenges faced by fashion/luxury/art industries. She is also passionate about women’s rights and gender justice. With a strong foundation in both theory and practice, she strives to bring a global perspective to the classroom, enriched by her diverse academic and practical legal training background.
