The Centre co-organised a National Seminar on AI, Law & Regulation in Chennai on 2 April 2026, in collaboration with the Centre for Justice through Technology at Vinayaka Mission’s Law School. The seminar brought together practitioners, academics, and policymakers for a day of substantive discussions on the trajectory of AI governance in India.
The inaugural session featured the release of O.P Jindal Global University’s AI Governance Report 2026, alongside a keynote address by Hon’ble Dr. Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services, Government of Tamil Nadu, delivered via recorded message.
Across three panel sessions, the discussions examined regulatory approaches to AI, including the role of guardrails, ethics-based frameworks, and sectoral regulators, while emphasising the need to balance innovation with accountability. The conversations also addressed questions of AI sovereignty, expanding access to justice within constitutional frameworks, and the evolving impact of AI on legal practice.
The seminar contributed to advancing nuanced and interdisciplinary dialogue on AI governance, with participation from a wide range of stakeholders from law, policy, and industry.
