Prof. Nikhil Naren, Assistant Director at the Centre, delivered a training session at the Maharashtra Judicial Academy on the themes “Artificial Intelligence and Law” and “Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property.” The session examined the growing impact of AI on legal systems, beginning with recent observations of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India on the need for verification, human oversight, and judicial responsibility when engaging with AI-generated legal content. Prof. Naren discussed emerging legal challenges arising from AI-generated content, deepfakes, digital evidence, algorithmic decision-making, and online misinformation. The session also explored the evolving relationship between AI and intellectual property law, including questions of authorship, ownership, copyright, training data, and personality rights. The engagement reflects the Centre’s continued commitment to supporting judicial capacity-building on emerging technologies.
