Prof. Ashwin Upreti, Assistant Director at the Centre, co-authored an article published in The Indian Express, in both its print and digital editions, titled ‘Society Bears AI Risks, Must Have a Say in AI Governance.’ The piece was co-authored with Dr. Sasmit Patra, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, who serves on Parliament’s Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology and is also a Distinguished Adjunct Faculty Member at Jindal Global Law School, O.P. Jindal Global University. The article argues for a participatory approach to AI governance, contending that because the risks and consequences of AI systems are borne by society at large, the public must have a meaningful role in shaping the regulatory frameworks that govern them. The piece contributes to a growing body of the Centre’s work on inclusive, rights-respecting approaches to AI governance and complements the broader engagement with participatory AI governance that the Centre advanced at the PAIRS pre-summit sessions.
