Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionising industries, governance, and society. Yet, legal and regulatory frameworks have struggled to keep pace with rapid technological advancements. To address this urgent challenge, the Cyril Shroff Centre for AI, Law & Regulation has been established as India’s first Global Centre of Excellence focused on the evolving intersections of AI, law, and public policy.

This Centre is a pioneering initiative endowed by Cyril Shroff at Jindal Global Law School (JGLS), O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU), India’s top-ranked and globally reputed law school.

AI is revolutionising industries, governance, and society. However, legal and regulatory frameworks have struggled to keep pace with these rapid technological advancements. To address this pressing challenge, the Cyril Shroff Centre for AI, Law & Regulation has been established. It is India’s first Global Centre of Excellence focused on the evolving intersections of AI, law, and public policy. The Centre aims to shape AI governance, policy, and regulatory frameworks for both India and the world.

The Centre focuses on world-class research, knowledge creation, training, capacity building, and policy engagement. The aim is to shape the way AI is governed in India and contribute meaningfully to global conversations and ensure that AI serves the public good, and strengthens institutions.

Cyril Shroff is a renowned corporate lawyer in India who holds the position of the Managing Partner of the firm, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas. A third-generation lawyer, educated in Government Law College Bombay, Mr. Shroff has an illustrious career spanning over four decades. Mr. Shroff has developed a style and art—deeply entrenched in values—towards the practice of law which have inspired and continue to inspire many young lawyers in the country. Mr. Shroff has aligned the priorities of Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas with national growth, a remarkable sign of his devotion to the country by being at its service. Mr. Shroff believes in the possibilities of technology and its value-based use. He has brought in many technological aids in his firm, not just by way of optimising resources and time, but also to attain precision, accuracy, and perfection to the systems, processes, and products.

His conviction in the technology-driven march of society to excellence has prompted Mr. Shroff to take an interest in the interfaces of technology and society. With the intention of commemorating ten years of the Firm —building on the 107-year legacy of Amarchand Mangaldas —and in furtherance of the “Ahead of the Curve” ethos of the Firm, and its innovative, creative and intellectually curious culture, Mr. Shroff has established the Cyril Shroff Centre for AI, Law & Regulation at JGLS.
