Student Research
At Jindal Global University (JGU), our raison d'ĂȘtre is our students. We adopt a student-centred approach to learning.
We actively encourage experiential learning to develop the skills and attributes necessary for our students to thrive in their careers and become global citizens. Student research is an integral part of our educational philosophy, where faculty research and student projects intertwine to foster an environment of knowledge creation and exchange.
Promoting Research Skills in the Curriculum
JGU offers specific courses designed to cultivate research skills among students. These courses play a pivotal role in nurturing the next generation of researchers who can contribute to society through their academic pursuits.
Blurring the Lines between Teaching and Research: Active researchers among our faculty members bring their cutting-edge research findings into the classroom, enriching the learning experience of students. In turn, students' research projects and community engagement work generate new areas for research, creating a symbiotic relationship where teaching informs research and vice versa.
Interdisciplinary Research Opportunities: Cross-registration of courses across schools emphasizes our commitment to providing interdisciplinary research opportunities and academic experiences for our undergraduate and postgraduate students. Our research centers and groups are designed as interdisciplinary clusters, providing students with opportunities to support and be mentored through ongoing faculty and group-based research projects.
Support for Student Research: JGU actively promotes student research through the Research Grants Policy, allowing students to undertake research assistantships on faculty projects. Additionally, 20% of the annual research budget is earmarked to support student research projects.
Student Research Colloquiums: JGU hosts annual student research colloquiums funded by the University. These colloquiums have proven to be instrumental in enhancing student research interests and capacities. The events facilitate the sharing of research experiences and peer-to-peer learning, providing a platform for students from across India to present their original research papers before faculty experts.
Coase Brief Competition (CBC): The CBC, organized by the student-run Management Council, is an interdisciplinary competition celebrating the scholarship of economist and author Ronald H. Coase. It encourages contestants to present solutions to hypothetical problems beyond their respective academic disciplines, engaging students from schools across India and the world in interdisciplinary analysis and research.
