Programme Details
JSGP is a research-driven school and is dedicated to generating ideas and knowledge about, and practices of democratized development. JSGP is engaging with the contemporary policy environment, which demand new imaginations, new methodologies and revitalised ethics. Through national and international collaborations, it promotes interdisciplinary studies, joint teaching and research programmes, and develops comparative perspective on global policy issues. JSGP offer students a well-grounded theoretical education and exposes them to the field in both rural and urban contexts and actual institutional mechanisms. JSGP regularly invite academicians, activists, senior civil servants, politicians, NGOs workers, policymakers from UN and other international organisations to deliver lectures and interact with students and faculty.

- Master’s Degree in a discipline relevant to the proposed research with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade.
- Applicants with more than 3 years industry/ teaching/ practicing/ managerial/ professional experience will be given preference.
- Relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/Differently-Abled categories or for those who had obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19th September, 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures.
Applicants shall be admitted to the Ph.D Program under one of the following categories:
- Full-time Ph.D Student(with or without fellowship)
- Part-Time Ph.D Student (without fellowship)
The B.A. (Hons.) Economics programme aims at developing among students a sound theoretical understanding of the subject along with practical applications. The idea is to encourage broad-based understanding with greater depth in areas of particular interest to students. Studying economics today opens several possibilities for the future, and the idea is to guide students select their own trajectory in career advancement. For instance, graduates typically will be suited for investment banks, asset management firms, management consultancy firms, banking and financial services, trading desks, tax and advisory firms, economic consultancy firms and policy think tanks.

“means a person enrolled in the Ph.D. Programme devoting full-time to completing the requirements of the degree.” - Part-Time Ph.D. Student (without fellowship)
“means a person who is registered in the Ph.D. Programme devoting part of his/ her time for completing the requirements of the degree while discharging other employment obligations.”

Application Procedure
Duration of the Course
The minimum and maximum period of study and research shall be three years and six years respectively from the date of registration of the student.
