M.A. Public Policy (Online)

M.A. Public Policy (Online) - Programme Introduction

Build the solutions to fundamental challenges in developing countries with the first online Public Policy Master’s degree from India’s pioneering Public Policy School.

At the Jindal School of Government and Public Policy (JSGP), we approach public policy as a people-centred practice, recognising that technical expertise must serve the people’s interests. Policy decisions require due deliberation, with ample opportunities afforded to ordinary people to shape those policy decisions.

The M.A.  Public Policy (M.A. PP) (Online) programme trains students to build careers in the current complex policy environment, especially in the development and institutional contexts of the Global South. It uses a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach to study and analyse contemporary policy issues. Learners are equipped with the core knowledge and skillsets required to be successful policy analyst and a policymaker. They are encouraged to choose courses that will stimulate their intellectual curiosity and help develop expertise in their chosen domains.

The online program is recognized by the University Grants Commission of India and opens opportunities, especially for working professionals to equip themselves with relevant knowledge and skillsets to undertake policy analysis, policy formulation, monitoring, and assessment. Thus it would enrich them professionally and prepare them for more challenging responsibilities in public and corporate careers.

The JSGP M.A. PP (Online) programme is hosted by Coursera and substantially mirrors JSGP’s two-year conventional M.A. Public Policy programme. However, in the online version, the curriculum has been adapted for the global enrolment of students. The program requires earning 80 credits by completing three kinds of courses: Foundational, Essential, and Electives. Learning is spread over four terms in two years although working professionals who need more time to complete the program may take up to three years.

What makes this Master's degree unique?

An interdisciplinary approach to studying how to analyse contemporary issues

JSGP public policy professionals achieve mastery of different technical disciplines. Acquiring and applying the knowledge gleaned from an array of social science disciplines including economics, history, sociology, philosophy, ethics, and political science, rather than limiting the study to only one or two. They will understand the importance of working with evidence in analysing and crafting policies. Most importantly, JSGP graduates will have the skills to ensure that the public policies and processes they implement are both in compliance with ethical norms sustaining the public interest and fully cognizant of people’s freedom and dignity.
