The three-year fully residential B.A. (Hons.) in Social Science and Policy programme is a unique and first of its kind interdisciplinary programme in India, which provides the students with a solid grounding in social science theories and their applications.

The programme will offer exposure to the real-world practices through internships, research, and capstone projects. All the students will be extensively mentored by the faculty members and industry specialists.


Applicants to the B.A. (Hons.) in Social Science and Policy at JSGP should have completed the 10+2 level of schooling or its equivalent with minimum 60% aggregate marks. Students completing grade 12 in 2020 can also apply. Candidates will be selected through a holistic admissions process conducted over three rounds based on a personal statement, supplemental question, 10 and 12 Grade Marks, Faculty Interview and at par JSAT/SAT/ACT score.

Credit Structure

The three year full-time, residential programme will commence in first week of August. Students are required to successfully complete 140 credits spread over six semesters, write a term paper and undertake at least two internships) (Non-Credited).

  5. Political History of India
  6. Critical Academic writing

Semester 2

  1. Power, Hegemony, Agency and Resistance
  2. Effects of Power (Exploitation, Discrimination, Exclusion Social Conflict and Consensus)
  3. Caste and Class
  4. Structure of economy – II: (Efficiency, Competition and Cooperation, Uncertainty, Chance, Risk)
  5. Game Theory and Strategic Reasoning
  6. Making Sense of the Modern World (phenomenology, structuralism, existentialism, poststructuralism, postfoundational)

The B.A. (Hons.) in Social Science and Policy is a versatile social science degree leading to a variety of career paths. Students of this course will acquire skills to develop models and tools, and apply those in the field of Public Policy,  Journalism, Advocacy, Communications, Branding and Marketing Research, News Media, Nongovernmental Organisations (NGOs), Intergovernmental Organisations (IGOs), Public Relations Firms, Think Tanks, Activist and Advocacy Groups, Higher Studies and Academia
