Abstract:
Domestic violence is a transnational issue moving beyond the distinctions of caste, class, culture, and race. A culture of silence prevails amongst women in India. Amidst the Covid-19 crisis, the movement of people has been largely restricted within the four walls of the household which has prompted further deterioration of their condition in the continuously changing world order. This paper seeks to critically analyse the plethora of challenges faced by women during the pandemic that spawns a sense of fear and helplessness that results in intense consequences regarding the health and wellbeing of both women and children in the family. The legal measures have fallen short of preventing violence and attaining gender equality. The paper analyses the policies and strategies of different sectors within India by examining multiple layers of disruptions in the lives of women.  (Read Full Paper)
