Alex Silva Oliveira is an International Public Law Professor and a Brazilian lawyer. He has published widely in international law, human rights, the law of the sea and public law. His expertise also extends to semiotics and philosophy of law.
Prof. Oliveira has been a selected researcher to carry out research about the WHO instruments referenced in Brazilian domestic law (statutes, regulations and case law) at the University of Montreal in the project “H-Pod – A transdisciplinary research hub” (2021). He was a selected researcher at the Center for Studies and Research at the Hague Academy in 2020-2021 in the “Epidemics and International Law” program – his research in this framework concerned the state’s responsibility during an epidemic. He has been a researcher at the “Centre de Recherche en droit public” at the University of Montreal since 2020.
In Brazil, he has been part of the International Center for Human Rights at the São Paulo Academy of Law (CIDHSP/APD) since 2019 in the “Democracy, International Law and Human Rights” research group and an associate member of the Brazilian Society of Cognitive Sciences (SBCC) since 2017.
Prof. Oliveira is the recipient of prestigious research grants and awards, including from the University of Montreal as the Ph.D excellence scholarship. He is a Ph.D candidate in international law at the University of Montreal (2020) whose thesis aims to answer questions concerning the place of the individual before the procedure of interstate courts, notably the International Court of Justice and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, in cases relating to human rights violations. He holds a master’s degree in international law from the University of São Paulo (2019) and a bachelor’s degree from the same institution (2014).
He also participated in the Teaching Improvement Program (PAE) in the subjects of public international law I and II at the University of São Paulo (2016-2017). He is a former coordinator of the research group in the law of the sea “Centro de Estudos em Direito do Mar Vicente Marotta Rangel” at the University of São Paulo (2016). He is originally from Brazil and he researches and consults in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
