About The Programme

The primary objective of Jindal Global Law School's three-year B.A. Legal Studies programme is to foster legal creativity in young students and establish a robust groundwork for further studies in law and social sciences, or entry into legal and related professions. Introduced in the academic year of 2020-21, this programme is the first of its kind, encompassing multiple disciplines in legal studies.

 
 

What Makes It Different at JGU

Jindal Global Law School offers a multi-disciplinary undergraduate degree in legal studies which aims to provide a strong foundation in legal and social sciences research. It is taught by renowned faculty in the field, making it arguably the best programme of its kind. This social science programme is the only one in the country that focuses on nurturing legal imagination and understanding the legal context for the future.

The programme equips students with essential skills for pre-legal work, as well as prepares them for careers in legal practice, judiciary, academia and public service. Through teaching and training, students learn to express opinions on legal issues clearly and concisely, identify, analyze and address legal problems, and assess the social impact of legal issues.
The programme also offers excellent training in organizational and communication skills, and provides opportunities to learn foreign languages and interdisciplinary courses across the various schools of Jindal Global University.

To be eligible for admission to Jindal Global Law School’s 3-year B.A.- Legal Studies, LLB 3-year, and LLM 1-year programmes, applicants must have completed 10+2 or an equivalent examination with a minimum of 45% marks from CBSE, ISC, state boards, IB, Cambridge, or other government-recognized boards. Additionally, they must have taken the JSAT-Law examination or an equivalent exam and achieved not less than 45% aggregate marks.

The B.A. Legal Studies programme at JGLS has a curriculum that includes both compulsory and elective courses, with a maximum duration of one semester. The compulsory courses are designed to provide students with a strong foundation in the fundamental branches of law and meet the requirements for admission to legal practice. The elective courses offer an opportunity for students to explore specific areas of interest and develop a deeper understanding of the subject matter.

The curriculum comprises a total of 148 credits, covering a wide range of topics. Students will be required to complete courses in areas such as Legal Method and Legal Reasoning, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Contracts, Property Law, and Tort Law, among others. In addition to these compulsory courses, students can choose from a variety of elective courses, such as Intellectual Property Law, Environmental Law, Human Rights Law, and International Law.

The B.A. Legal Studies programme is designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to pursue careers in legal practice, judiciary, academia, and public service. The B.A. Legal Studies programme at Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) provides students with a strong foundation in legal studies and social sciences, preparing them for a wide range of career opportunities in the legal and allied fields.

Graduates from the programme can pursue careers in legal practice, the judiciary, academia, public service, and corporate legal departments. 

Additionally, students can pursue further studies in law and social sciences, including pursuing a traditional law degree or a master’s degree in a related field. Graduates can also choose to work in areas such as policy analysis, consulting, and advocacy.

The B.A. Legal Studies programme provides a solid foundation for students to develop the critical thinking and analytical skills necessary for success in a wide range of careers. With the support of the JGLS faculty and the university’s extensive network of alumni, graduates of the programme are well-prepared to excel in their chosen career paths.

Jindal Global Law School offers a range of scholarships to support exceptional students pursuing various law programmes.

The O.P. Jindal Outstanding Merit Scholarship is awarded to the top five LSAT-India test scorers who enroll in the three-year LL.B. program, five-year B.A./B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) program, or one-year LL.M. program. Each recipient is awarded Rs. 1 lakh per year based solely on their performance in the LSAT-India admission test.

The Naveen Jindal Young Global Scholarships aim to encourage and support young global leaders. One student from the five-year B.A./B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) program, one student from the three-year LL.B. program, and one student from the one-year LL.M. programme are selected through an independent process and awarded the scholarship, which covers the one-year programme fee for B.A./B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and LL.B. programmes, and 50% of the programme fee for the LL.M. program.

The Shallu Jindal Outstanding Women Scholarships support outstanding women pursuing law degrees. Two students from the three-year LL.B. program, two students from the five-year B.A./B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) program, and two students from the one-year LL.M. programme are selected through an independent process and awarded 50% of the one-year programme fee each.

In addition, a substantial number of selected students are awarded studentships ranging from 10% to 50% of tuition fees on a merit-cum-means basis, as per university rules.

JGLS believes that an international experience is essential for students to recognize and embrace different cultural and community perspectives, creating new career opportunities and broadening their worldview. To facilitate this, JGLS offers a range of geographically diverse and academically enriching Student Exchange programmes for one semester. These programmes offer students the opportunity to study abroad at one of JGLS’s partner institutions, spread across varying legal systems, and bring back a unique learning experience. The exchanges not only enrich students’ academic and professional lives, but also enhance language learning, intercultural skills, self-reliance, and self-awareness, making them citizens of the world.

The programme is open to students pursuing the five-year B.Com. / B.B.A. LL.B / B.A. LL.B, three-year LL.B., and one-year LL.M. programmes. Eligible students from JGLS spend a semester at one of our partner institutions across the globe, and the programme is revenue-neutral with respect to tuition fees.

JGLS’s ‘LIFE in Law’ programme is a valuable academic support system for students who may be experiencing difficulties in their studies. This programme is specially designed for students who need assistance and support to pass their re-sit examinations. The programme is aimed at helping these students succeed by providing them with a comprehensive teaching-oriented approach that focuses on preparing them for their exams.

The programme is conducted by experienced faculty members who work closely with students to identify their academic challenges and tailor a learning plan that is best suited to their individual needs. Students enrolled in the ‘LIFE in Law’ programme receive personalized attention and guidance, which helps them to build their confidence and academic abilities.

This programme is a unique opportunity for students who may have faced challenges in their academic journey to catch up on their studies and progress towards their degree. Upon completion of the programme, students are equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in their academic pursuits.
