Clinical Legal Education (CLE) began at JGLS with the University’s establishment in 2009 with initiatives driven towards community-centric projects around Sonipat. The projects undertaken at JGLS have encompassed legal empowerment, legal demystification workshops, webinars, legal aid, judicial and legislative interventions, guest lectures, and clinical courses. Clinical faculty at JGLS has been invested in rigorous pedagogical tools and proximate mentorship with students to prepare them for the challenges and nuances of socio-legal issues by interacting with communities and clients. The experience of studying at Clinics has been transformative and immersive for students, subverting the traditional norms of the law school classroom. Centrally locating the community, students and faculty have developed deep relationships with the community and clients, to offer legal support in a consistent and committed manner.
The Office of Vice Dean of Clinical Legal Education at Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) was established in August 2020 to institutionalize the vision for Clinical Legal Education (CLE). The Office ensures administrative and substantive uniformity in the day-to-day functioning of clinics. The clinics have been institutionalized under the Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer Centre for Clinical Legal Education – named after Justice Krishna Iyer, known for his humanist approach to law, social justice and egalitarianism.
