At O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU), we are committed to creating an environment where the pursuit of knowledge is protected by academic freedom and guided by the spirit of inquiry.
In line with our institutional vision, the Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) has been built to be a centre for learning where legal research is undertaken with intellectual rigour and global outlook, with the aim to contribute substantially to legal scholarship and public policy. In recognition of our efforts, JGLS has been consistently ranked as India’s top law school in the prestigious world university rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) and Times Higher Education (THE).
As we face increasingly complex challenges to both national and international law, today’s legal professionals and scholars have to be equipped to respond to issues concerning constitutional reform, international law, competition policy, criminal justice, intellectual property, socio-legal studies, or emerging areas such as data privacy and innovation policy. The Doctoral Programme at JGLS is designed to be a specialised, inter-disciplinary and intellectually rigorous programme that integrates law, policy, governance and ethics, producing professionals and scholars who will conduct research on these emerging issues, strengthen democratic institutions and uphold the rule of law.
Our curriculum is designed to equip scholars with the methodological tools, theoretical grounding, and interdisciplinary sensibility required to engage with legal issues in a rapidly transforming world. The outstanding faculty of JGLS, comprising distinguished scholars with international training and diverse experience, is committed to guiding our doctoral candidates in developing independent scholarly judgement and critical thinking.
With specialised research centres and institutes, an extensive curated collection of library resources and dedicated facilities for doctoral scholars, our doctoral programme provides an opportunity to be part of a dynamic academic community that places very high value on critical thinking and constructive debate. I urge all of you to look at this programme not just as an academic feather in your cap but as a way for you to contribute as responsible public citizens to the greater common good. In the end, the pursuit of knowledge in itself amounts to little unless it is a path that leads to the greater ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and the rule of law.
We look forward to welcoming candidates who are compelled by the spirit of inquiry, possess great curiosity, hold themselves to the highest standards of integrity and, at all times, are committed to the heights of excellence. I am delighted to invite you to join us on this journey and contribute to building a community of scholars dedicated to advancing legal research of global significance.

Ph.D. programme of JGLS
The Ph.D. programme at JGLS has recently been revamped to adapt to changing times and changing needs of our scholars. Our programme aims to produce world class researchers in law, humanities and social sciences. With our diverse and accomplished faculty and excellent research facilities, our doctoral scholars will receive quality research training and mentorship. To this end, we have introduced a new curriculum to include a solid foundation in a variety of methods, writing skills and training in pedagogy including teaching fellowships. Every semester, we organise doctoral seminars in vital academic skills such as conference paper presentation, time management and more, to our programme. Apart from the academics, we aim to bring together a thriving cohort of Ph.D. scholars who can become a nerve centre of ideas and scholarly comraderie. But at the core of our JGLS Ph.D. programme is an abiding commitment to social justice and public service. We believe that perhaps more than ever before, we need scholars who combine sharp research skills with a spirit of public mindedness and an ability to problem-solve and ideate, to take India and the world into the future.

It enriched not just my academic understanding but also made me a better person. JGLS ensured that I had all the resources that I required for my doctoral studies, and if I needed anything extra, specific to my work, everyone at JGLS went out of their way to ensure that resource is made available to me. My experience as a doctoral scholar at Jindal Global Law School has been deeply rewarding. Over the past year, I have appreciated how thoughtfully the PhD program has been structured, including coursework, synopsis development and post-synopsis research stages following each other in close succession. The pre-determined timelines for each stage have enabled a smooth and organized progression, helping me stay consistently on track throughout the program. The courses are academically rigorous, and yet the program makes realistic accommodations for scholars who are working professionals. In addition to the necessary courses, the availability of interdisciplinary electives across schools helped enriched my understanding of research methodologies. Most importantly, regular weekly meetings with my supervisor ensure steady progress and valuable inputs that contribute directly towards the quality of output produced. This guidance is further strengthened by a Research Advisory Committee whose members bring a valuable combination of theoretical and empirical expertise. Overall, the JGLS Ph.D. programme provides a clear structure and sustained support to what is otherwise a long and demanding PhD journey, making it less overwhelming and intellectually fulfilling.”
